Poems of Inspiration: A Daily Dose of Self-Motivation is a set of impressive vignettes written by Rodrick Walters chock-full of hope and inspiration. The poems, thirty in total, have been penned to fuel readers to follow their dreams and goals, and accomplish what may have at first seemed impossible to achieve.

With a stirring introduction which tees up the subject matter in this text, Rodrick Walters gives life to his words in an amazing way, nudging his audience gently towards their fruitfulness. The entries open up with a short poem titled “Success”, that lucidly invokes quiet moments of reflection emboldening us to commit ourselves to accomplishing our purpose and expecting the best possible outcome.

Elsewhere, in “I’m Changing My Mind”, the persona is tired of being stuck in a rut and makes up his mind to live differently and experience what a good life is about. In yet another, “A Child In His Eyes”, a young boy marvels his parents with his wisdom who seek to find out how he became so wise. He explains to them the nuggets of wisdom that he learnt from his grandfather such as love and forgiveness being the requisites for a happy and prosperous life.

Like a firefly light, Walters’ work is deeply introspective with direct prose making these poems linger on and return to from time to time. Some poems demand to be read out loud to be appreciated fully, such as “A Lasting Legacy” while others appear to be quiet musings such as “Tomorrow is Mine” and summing up into captivating catharsis. The poet has employed an adept control of imagery, making the key message easily digestible. The entries occur in free verse and carry with them a unique emotional resonance.

One of the book’s notable strengths lies in its repetition of certain words along with its remarkable tonal range. Its fundamental message of hope and inspiration is current and timeless. Rodrick Walters’ Poems of Inspiration: A Daily Dose of Self-Motivation is no doubt a literary salve which deserves a place in everyone’s nightstand or coffee table. It’s a worthy companion in the journey of life and a constant reminder not to give up but carry on and reach for the stars.
